Why Infrared (IR) and not Radio Frequency (RF) for the wireless remote? Our testing showed that IR was a more reliable wireless transmission method, because RF is prone to many interference sources, including the skateboard motor itself. Motors are a huge source of RF noise, and can interfere with the remote's RF wireless signal. IR uses an invisible light which is in no way affected by RF noise from the motor, resulting in more reliable wireless communication. The Metroboard Remote Control uses a powerful IR signal that doesn't require that you aim it accurately. Just hold it in which ever hand is forward (Right if Goofy foot, Left if Regular foot), and the remote will work extremely reliably!
Why Buttons and not a Trigger for the wireless remote? The biggest safety risk with an electric skateboard is falling off the board. With a trigger type remote, it's very easy to accidentally accelerate too fast or brake too hard by pulling/pushing on the trigger too fast. With the Metroboad Electric Skateboard, the acceleration/braking ramps are precision controlled by the software inside the skateboard to ensure that each and every time you hit one of the speed or brake buttons, you will have a smooth and gradual acceleration or braking. Simply press and hold one of the 3 speed buttons (8 mph, 12 mph, or 16 mph), and the skateboard will smoothly accelerate you to that speed. There are also 9 user adjustable power/skill levels, so that the rider can choose between a mild gentle acceleration to a more thrilling powerful acceleration, or anywhere in between. For braking, press and hold one of the 2 braking buttons (light or hard braking), and the skateboard will gradually and safely bring you to a stop. The other benefit of the button type remote is your ability to coast. With a trigger remote you are either accelerating or braking, but there is no "neutral". With the Metroboard, simply let go of the speed or brake buttons, and you can coast, saving you precious battery energy, and increasing your range!
